Title: Super Turbo Power Man
Super Turbo Power Man is one of the most original RPG Maker 2000 games I've seen for a long while. Not a traditional RPG by any means, this puts you in he role of the eponymous superhero as he tries to overcome the crimebots invading the city and team up with Psychic Monkey so that he can save Mullet Man from the evil Green Bean. Yes, it really is that insane! To defeat the crimebots, crime lords, and ultimately green bean himself, you must visit the gym in order to make smoothies to gain more health or train to get more muscle. There are 5 types of fruit to make the smoothy from, and the resulting power drink can get you up to 4 extra HP. Weight training by hitting the Enter key like you don't need a working keyboard tomorrow will get you up to 4 extra strength points. To use the gym however you need Gym Passes - you don't have any of these to begin with, but can get them by doing some of the various mini-games. One is a version of hangman, another is a dodgems (except you have to aboid the other cars), another a maths puzzle, one colour code puzzle... Most are easy though the dodgems may have you pulling your hair out for a while. The mini-games are fun if mostly very undemanding, and the battles are quite funny. There's not a lot else to really say about this game. It's very daft, very entertaining, very short, and not very demanding. The graphics aren't briliant but are suitably cartoony, while the music and sound effects are reasonable and compliment the game. The only other problem is the complete lack of documentation, though most parts of the game have a short explanatory screen before you go into the sequence so it's not a big problem. This isn't the only superhero spoof game I've seen made with RPG Maker 2000, but it is the best. The sequel (cunningly named "Super Turbo Power Man 2" is definitely superior, but at the time of writing this is still at the demo stage - so watch out for a review sometime (hopefully soon!). As it is the demo for STPM2 is even crazier than this and probably about as long. (Sorry, can't find the download link at the moment.)
ProsA fun and refreshing change from traditional RPGs with a good dose of humour
ConsVery short, some mini-games a little frustrating
VerdictA very funny superhero spoof game. Would have got a better rating if it had been longer.
