Mobile Phone Game Reviews
Game: Adventure Race
Overview: A four event tournament – canoeing, cycling, running, and orienteering. This is quite a fun game which can be played as a 1, 2, or 3 day tournament, each with different programmes of events. You play against 5 computer-controlled competitors though mostly against the clock. The games have varying degrees of challenge and getting a gold medal overall is never particularly easy. A pretty good game overall.

Game: Dig Dug Deluxe
Overview: The classic Namco game where you either harpoon monsters and then inflate them till they burst (cruel but fun!) or droop boulders on their heads. You can play in classic mode or “deluxe”, with graphics taken from the PSP version; I found myself initially playing the deluxe mode, but later switched to and stuck with the classic mode – somehow the monsters were much more expressive and of course it had a nice retro feel to it. Dig Dug is one of the classic old games that never truly ages due to a perfect blend of gameplay that requires both fast reflexes and good strategic planning. Couldn’t get the sound to work for some reason, though in general I play mobile phone games on silent anyway so it wasn’t really a problem.

Game: Pro Snowboarding
Overview: Perform a variety of stunts and complete missions in this snowboarding sim. The graphics are great, as is the music. While the controls are a bit tricky to begin with you’ll soon find yourself stringing together awesome combos of front / tail grabs, freestyling, helicopters and backflips. Can also be played as multiplayer. Overall, great fun.

Game: Snake 3
Overview: The classic “Snake” game gets updated to include multiplayer mode, story mode, and vastly improved graphics. Unfortunately this has come at the cost of sluggish controls, which makes the game much, much less fun to play than the graphically inferior but super-responsive Snake 2 on the older phones. Disappointing.

Game: Lemmings
Overview: One of my all-time favourite games on the Atari ST, Lemmings is a fantastic game that could quite easily have been ported over to the mobile phone successfully... yet for some reason they forgot to have the bottom part of the screen (which just so happens to contain vital informaion) not visible... unless it's a problem with my phone particualrly, this game is almost completely unplayable as a result.

Game: Brain Genius
Overview: Awesome game, this... you get "exercises" to do every day and get rated on (or just practice singly if you want, four games in each of four mental disciplines - visual, memory, calcuation, and logic. Dexgterity is sometimes as necessary as brain-power to get high scores, there are 3 difficulty levels (Junior, Master, and Genius) for each game, and a couple of bonus games. Nice graphics, okay sound, a professor to guide you through the games and give you information on some of the world's great thinkers. The games themselves are very addictive, and (hopefully!) will help you improve your brain power!
