Title: Frasse and the Peas of Kejick
OverviewYou are a small blue furry thing called Frasse (honestly). You must team up with a small green lizardy thing to find the mysterious Peas of Kejlick, not only to claim the reward from the King of course, but because there must be some dire peril for the King to be in need of their powerful magic.. As with all adventure games you must solve various puzzles and interract with various characters in order to progress in the game. Frasse... is a little different though, you talk to the bees for instance, and the puzzles are somewhat unusual at times... for instance, the first real puzzle is to get your green lizardy friend (Gurra) to join you on your quest, and to do that you need to unblock the huge lump of stone that's fallen over the entrance to his house. (I found the answer to this one more or less by accident - if you're stuck, think Tetris!) This is an early example of the slightly more "outside the box" angle the game's author wanted to take with this. To a large extent it works, but some of the puzzles really are tough! (There's one really fiendish mathematical puzzle..) However there are usually a couple of different ways to solve each puzzle, which is a good touch. Overall the puzzles are medium difficulty, some easy ones and a few real toughies, a good mix for the average adventurer. Once you have freed Gurra you can swap between the characters. This is very important because their abilities are completely different - Frasse can access the inventory and climb, while Gurra who can't do those things can kick things (however, violence isn't always the answer!) and is a far better talker. (Talking to other characters is done via Sam and Max-style dialogue topic icons.) Though nearer the end of the game you get to use Frasse for conversations more, and choose from a number of sentences instead of the topic icons. The graphics aren't always the best but they do maintain a cheerful cartoony atmosphere throughout the game and the main characters are well animated. There is plenty of humour throughout the game and the puzzles do have a certain logic to them even though they're often rather quirky. As a guess I'd say it will probably take you around 6-8 hours to complete this game. Very enjoyable and quite unique in many ways.
ProsOriginal, funny, colourful graphics, good animation, pretty decent music, decent length
ConsNot many
VerdictA very good good adventure game, helped along by a good dollop of inventiveness and originality. Highly recommended to all adventure game fans.
