Title: Five Magical Amulets
OverviewFive Magical Amulets is a traditional game in every sense of the word. The hand-drawn graphics and original music are the first things that hit you - very stylish and good quality. The animation is also very nicely done. Once you've been playing for a short time it becomes clear that the storyline has a fairy-tale quality, perhaps somewhat remeniscent of the old King's Quest games. This doesn't come across as tired or hackneyed, however, as the story is developed very well. In fact every aspect of this game sings quality. As with so many quality freeware games, this one originates from the Czech Republich. The original game was of course in Czech (the website above will take you to the English version of the site), but the translation team have done a good job and the English version reads fine. It's a good size game that'll take you quiet a while to complete, and what's also nice about it is the fact that the puzzles in the game are quite varied, both in terms of type and difficulty. The download is a bit on the large size but is well worth the wait, even if you're on dial-up and have to leave it on overnight. (There are 4 mirrors in addition to the priary download location, so you should find one with a decent download speed.) In the game you play the part of a young woman finding her way in the world, and you soon learn that everything is not as you though. During your travels to find your mentor you will discover that no-one is quite who they seemed, least of all yourself. There are plenty of interesting characters that you meet along the way, and some good dialogue (quite unusual in a translated game!). The game plays really well, looks great, sounds great, and will keep you playing for quite some time. One of the most professional freeware adventure games I've ever played. The "outtakes" you can access once you complete the game are quite funny too - some show trrible miscalculations of scale resulting in a character becmoming a giant in that scene, while others... well, I'll let you find that out for yourself. ProsGreat graphics, good sound, nice storyline, good variety of puzzles
ConsNone, unless you've got a slow broadband connection!
VerdictA must-have freeware adventure game.
