Title: Five Lethal Demons
OverviewThe development team that brought us the excellent Five Magical Amulets are also responsible for thsi enjoyable spoof game, Five Lethal Demons. It is a very short game - only two playable rooms in fact - but the production is flawless, there are a couple of extras that make it slightly longer than it seems, and it's quite funny. The game comes complete ith multi-language support - English, Czech, and Polish. It also has a built-in game version updater. The story is based around a woman of pure evil (that's you in the game), who thinks computer games aren't violent and bloody enough. Thus she hires a team of three poor unsuspecting males - a programmer, a graphics artist, and a scriptwriter - to produce her game. The interface is a verb-coin that has the standard lood, interact, adn takl to options, along with the somewhat non-standard whip. (This is only in the literal sense in one instance in the game, normally it's used figuratively.) The interface works perfectly and the puzzles are good, with a few in each room. There are two very different ways to solve one puzzle in the second room, and depending on your response after completing the second room, there are two different endings. This at least makes going back and doing things differently worthwhile, so despite the shortness you'll get a bit of extra enjoyment from the game. Once you've completed the game you have the option to play the game with designer's commentary on, which is entertaining and sometimes enlightennig. The visuals are superb and the soundtrack is outstanding, probably the best I've heard in any freeware adventure game (it's worth playing the game just to listen to it.) The developers rebel because of her heartless treatment of them, and also because they want to make a non-violent game based on a fairytale story... hey that sounds familiar! Could it be Five Magical Amulets? Overall, Five Lethal Demons is an excellent little game. It doesn't rival Five Magical Amulets in terms of storyline or length, but then it's not meant to. Plenty of eye candy, great music, and some good puzzles make this perhaps the ultimate five minute break adventure game. One for those that love adventure games, and also those who don't normally have the patience for them. (Want to know what the title has to do with it?... so do I!) ProsGreat graphics, brilliant soundtrack, some nice options
ConsVery short, though obviously it's intended to be
VerdictA must-have freeware adventure game.
NotesYou need to have at least DirectX version 8.0 to play this game. The latest version can be downloaded here.
