Captain Disaster's Blog

These are the voyages of Captain Disaster, his continuing mission to earn money and wreak havoc on the internet by writing reviews and this stupid blog...

See also my Movie Review Blog, which deals specifically with recent movie releases. I've got my reviews of these movies and their trailers on the blog, plus some general movie chatter.
This page has been put into stasis until further notice Read a random review if you're bored or check out the The Good Movies Write Off - all movies that Epinions members have given 4 or 5 star ratings to.

Captain's Blog, Stardate 22.06.07 - site stats and The Great Race updated.

Captain's Blog, Stardate 08.06.07 - er.. well, for some reason I've felt very little inclination to even go online recently and have been busy with other stuff, so not much updating here. There is a new funny photo on the site, and yes it is another cat one...

Captain's Blog, Stardate 31.05.07 - A new funny photo added. That's 3 altogether... how will you cope with such an amazing volume of new photos?!?! Also, a new movie trailer and information page added (that's what the two links in yesterday's blog post were about, those ones were for "About A Boy" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End". Today I bring you: Bridge To Terabithia: Movie Trailer and Information.

Captain's Blog, Stardate 30.05.07 - I'm trying something new on the site - see this page and this one.

Captain's Blog, Stardate 29.05.07 - well a lot's happened since I was last able to update this due to technical problems (okay, my computer died completely and I had to get a new one...) Chelsea won the FA Cup, AC Milan beat Liverpool to win the European Cup. Oh well, here's to next season... at least it looks like we'll keep hold of Carragher and Gerrard, that's a good start!

In movies, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End came and went, and left many people including myself feeling rather underwhelmed. Still, could have been worse.

General tidying up of the site going on, looking for a new freeware HTML editor (the one I used is not happy with Vista...), and will eventually get my game up and running again - will need to connect the old ahrd drive but not too keen on the idea of opening up my new baby while it's so new!!

Captain's Blog, Stardate 15.05.07 - some bits and bobs updated:

Reviews, Movie Reviews, The Great Race.

Captain's Blog, Stardate 08.05.07 - Oops... I uploaded the wrong index page onto the main DARSCOM site... sorry for any confusion this caused!!

Captain's Blog, Stardate 02.05.07 - Quite a few updates over at my games site.

AC Milan crush Man Utd 3-0 at the San Siro as a repeat of the final 2 years ago is set up. Back then Milan were 3-0 up at half-time, then Liverpool produced the greatest comeback in the competition's history to win it. I wonder what will happen this time?

Captain's Blog, Stardate 01.05.07 -

We're through!!!!

After a nailbiting enalty shoot-out, Liverpool beat Chelsea at Anfield to go into the European Champions Final for the second time in 3 years!!

Captain's Blog, Stardate 28.04.07 - Some more screenshots added for my game, "The Life of Death". Click here for the latest demo version.

The less said the better about Liverpool's game with Portsmouth today!! :-(

Captain's Blog, Stardate 26.04.07 - Oh dear, Chelsea finally beat us in Europe. Still, a 2-0 win at Anfield will put us in the final for the second time in three years! Click Here for more information on AOL Sport.

Captain's Blog, Stardate 25.04.07 - I was a bit bored with the homepage so I redesigned it. Just in case any of the sites I link to or show up on the GoogleAds don't behave themselves, I've added a disclaimer just in case.

Man Utd managed a tough 3-2 win at AC Milan last night in the other European Champions Cup semi-final, I'm hoping Jose Mourinho will be spewing out yet more nonsensical excuses for losing to Liverpool again after tonight...

Captain's Blog, Stardate 23.04.07 - New webpage on the site: Horrible Histories Reviews - reviews of the popular Horrible Histories books by Terry Deary. Well, with a title like that, what did you expect?!??

I've also been fairly brave (I think - maybe foolish?!?) and put my made my game demo known in the AGS forums. Help awaits, hopefully... 87 reads and no replies so far...

Captain's Blog, Stardate 22.04.07 - Screenshots added for my fledgling game that really needs a decent programmer (I'm not!) and a decent graphics artist (I'm not that either, as you can see from the screenshots...) to do it justice! Help!! Email me if you can program AGS and would like to help out.
Captain's Blog, Stardate 20.04.07 - The designer journal for my game has been updated with a demo release! I'm hoping for someone who can program AGS better will offer to take over the project though, I don't think I'll even have the necessary skill to turn my ideas into good games. Will hopefully get some screenshots up tomorrow and post on the AGS forum... I'm a bit nervous about doing that though as the game's really not that good!

Also updated the site stats - a slight increase in hits this month with 2,318.

Captain's Blog, Stardate 18.04.07 - another new page - reviews related to Jules Verne - his books and films made of them.
Captain's Blog, Stardate 17.04.07 - updated Reviews to reflect the featured reviews (at the bottom of the page) moving up in the rankings a little. Seem to have hit a brick wall as far as writing goes, hope it doesn't last long!

Captain's Blog, Stardate 16.04.07 - The Great Race updated. Also a new funny photo for your viewing pleasure. At the astonishing rate I'm churning these out, I could break into double figures by the end of the decade... Already behind release date on my sci-fi thriller, but I'm not really feeling very inspired at the moment so it can't be helped.
Captain's Blog, Stardate 15.04.07 - As I've managed to get my HTML editor working again, I updated my movie reviews again, now up to 48 for the year. Will hopefully update The Great Race tomorrow. While you're waiting, why not Read a random review by CaptainD (me) ?

Actually I got a little adventurous after this and also updated the Computer Game Reviews page, and now also have these new pages on the site:

Captain's Blog, Stardate 11.04.07 - Liverpool cruise into their 8th European Cup semi-final with a 1-0 win over PSV at Anfield. The result and performance seemed a little lacklustre compared to Manchester United's rip-roaring 7-1 victory against AS Roma, but with a 3-0 lead already from the away leg I suppose it was innevitable. Chelsea in the semis now... can we win it for the second time in 3 years?

Captain's Blog, Stardate 04.04.07 - after a longer gap than usual due to me being extremely busy, here we have another update to the great race.

Captain's Blog, Stardate 03.04.07 - another famous night in Europe as Liverpool beat PSV Eindhoven 3-0 away from home! Could it be that the dream of becoming European Champions again is becoming more than a dream?!? Read the AOL Sport match report.

Also updated: Movie Reviews and Discworld reviews.

Captain's Blog, Stardate 31.03.07 - oh happy days! Liverpool beat Arsenal 4-1 with Peter Crouch scoring a hatrick, meaning 3rd place is still possible for the Mighty Reds. Read the match report on AOL. Also found a handy little online utility for comparing documents for unique content - very useful for those who, like myself, write for Epinions as well as other review websites such as Ciao and Dooyoo. Click here to try it.

Captain's Blog, Stardate 21.03.07 - added a feature to search Epinions since their own search engine isn't all that great at times!

Captain's Blog, Stardate 20.03.07 - site stats updated. Seem to be going at a steady 2,200 hits per month at the moment (though I guess that's a slight increase as February was a shorter month!)

Captain's Blog, Stardate 19.03.07 - ah well a draw at Villa, but at least Arsenal lost...

Two moremovie reviews (which is now complete with movie reviews written in 2004 and movie reviews written in 2003 added), which takes me to 42 for the year so far and 306 altogether:

Also I've updated the the great race.

Captain's Blog, Stardate 17.03.07 - NEW FEATURE!! - Read a random review by CaptainD!!

Other stuff...

Wales suddenly remember hwo to win a match against England, and France take hoem the Six Nations Championship. I don't think any of the Northern Hemisphere teams really look capable of mountnig a serious challenge for the World Cup though... Liverpool play Villa tomorrow and must win to keep alive hopes of a third-place finish this season. Benitez has said that we're a long way from being genuine challengers for the title, and unfortunately I have to agree with him.

If you're feeling like a challenge, here are some PC games for those with a detective streak:

Captain's Blog, Stardate 13.03.07 - my reviews of WarGames and Kindom of Heaven today make it 39 movie reviews so far in 2007. It could be a record-breaking year...
Captain's Blog, Stardate 12.03.07 - updated the great race, athe action here is hotting up, especially in The Great Race 2...

Captain's Blog, Stardate 11.03.07 - England claim victory over France at Twickenham, leaving the Six Nations championship wide open with France, Ireland, and England all level on 6 points.

But much more awesome than that... the new Most Popular lists are out on Epinions, and guess what? For this year so far I'm the most popular (well, most read reviewer in both Movies and Personal Finance! :-D I'm currently 12th Most Popular Author overall for the year, and have moved up to 86th MPA of all time. American Express Blue Credit Card is the most read personal finance review of the year so far. Who'd of thought it!??! Reviews updated as a result, with my reviews of LEGO Star Wars 2 and Top Ten British Films both climbing the lists nicely.

Captain's Blog, Stardate 09.03.07 -movie reviews updated with movies also on their own webpage by year - movie reviews written in 2006 and movie reviews written in 2005 added so far. (91 and 66 movie reviews respectively.)
Captain's Blog, Stardate 07.03.07 - My review of The Truman Show makes it 37 movie reviews so far this year... I've also linked to all 91 of my review reviews written in 2006 on that page now too.
Captain's Blog, Stardate 06.03.07 - Liverpool put holders Barcelona out of the European Champions Cup! All hail Liverpool! Can we win it again? Anything's possible...

Captain's Blog, Stardate 05.03.07 - updated the great race, and Liverpool lost their unbeaten home record losing 1-0 to Manchester United... fiends... my red devils supporting friend was very happy of course... yes, I am struggling to find time and motivation to update this stupid blog!!!
Captain's Blog, Stardate 26.02.07 - updated the great race, and added yet more competitors...

Captain's Blog, Stardate 20.02.07 - updated - site stats, also movie reviews with The Goonies and Charlotte's Web.
Captain's Blog, Stardate 18.02.07 - new movie review - The Princess Bride and an update to Top Ten Comedies.

Captain's Blog, Stardate 15.02.07 - Reviews page updated with the addition of movie reviews - it'll take me a while to get all the links done though as I've got nearly 300 movie reviews! Also the great race has been updated (yet again) - there are now fourgreat races happening simultaneously - to 1000 reviews, 600 reviews, 500 reviews, and 300 reviews respectively.
Captain's Blog, Stardate 14.02.07 - Updated - reviews page (see the bottom of the page -t he new Most Popular lists are out on Epinions. Also updated the great race. A real surprise in the Most Popular lists that I just found out - my review of American Express Blue Credit Card is second in the 2007 list of most popular Personal Finance reviews!!!! My reviews of NatWest Mortgages and Barclays Bank are 10th and 14th!!!!
Captain's Blog, Stardate 09.02.07 - I've just released a paperback version of Warts & All, my first poetry collection, priced at £6.99 at Lulu. Go on, buy it, you know you want to!!
Captain's Blog, Stardate 09.02.07 - two new mobile phone game reviews - Lemmings and Brain Genius.

It took me a while to catch up witht he news that Liverpool Football Club, like most other things in the world, has been bought by American businessmen. Hopefully it will be good news for the club in the long run. The deal valued the club at £174.1million. Liverpool lose yet again away from home (2-1 to Newcastle) while England make hard work of beating Italy in the Six Nations rugby championship. Johnny Wilkinson becomes the highest scorign English rugby uniion player in the process. Meanwhile Scotland bounce back from last week's defeat by England with a 21-9 win against Wales.

Additional - the The Great Race has been updated yet again, because we have two new contestants - battling each otehr in a different race, to 300 reviews.

Captain's Blog, Stardate 09.02.07 - we have a new competitor on The Great Race!! But has she bitten off more than she can chew??

Captain's Blog, Stardate 07.02.07 - the latest addition to this site, funny photos - well, only one right now, but more will follow!

Captain's Blog, Stardate 03.02.07 - ack... Liverpool failed to win the Merseyside derby despite 20 shots to Everton's 6... still, at least this means we are still unbeaten at home in the league this season... Meanwhile, Chelsea win again, Watford lose again, and teh six nations with England beating Scotland convincingly and France demolishing Italy.
Captain's Blog, Stardate 01.02.07 - updated the top ten listspage with my Top Ten Movies of 2006.
Captain's Blog, Stardate 31.01.07 - Updated The Great Race again - too busy redecorating and stuff to do much updating or writing!

Captain's Blog, Stardate 23.01.07 - Ever wanted to know how you can fit more tunes on your mobile phone? Click Here to the stupendously easy answer!
Captain's Blog, Stardate 20.01.07 - See how the Great Race between myself and another Epinions member te reach a thousand reviews is going!
Captain's Blog, Stardate 20.01.07 - Yay!!!!! 2-0 up against Chelsea with 24 minutes left! Go Liverpool!!

UPDATE - Full Time, 2-0 to Liverpool. Nice result :-D

Captain's Blog, Stardate 19.01.07 - Well, I'm now 4 years old in Epinions terms, and have just posted my 700th review on the site. My reviews page on this site has been updated to give the 2006 rankings of the three featured reviews at the bottom, LEGO Star Wars 2, nVidia GeForce 5500 FX graphics card, and Top Ten British Films.

Oh yeah, congrats to Andy Murray who's having a good run in tennis and Birmingham City who have well and truly excised their cup ghosts of last season by thumping Newcastle 5-1! All my Brummie friends are very happy... except of course the Villa supporters! Speaking of sports, I've updated my Sport & Fitness Equipment Reviews page to include a new exercise bike review.

Captain's Blog, Stardate 17.01.07 - Mobile Phone Game Reviews added to the site.
Captain's Blog, Stardate 16.01.07 - a small update to my Discworld Reviews page as I post my 698th review on Epinions... 2 more reviews to go, 3 more days to get them... I think I'll manage to reach 700 reviews in 4 years okay.
Captain's Blog, Stardate 11.01.07 - And another Board Game Review is posted - Chess
Captain's Blog, Stardate 09.01.07 - now out of the Carling Cup as well after being mauled 6-3 at home... what has happened to Liverpool?!?!?

Oh well, forget fotball and read some of my board game reviews instead:

Captain's Blog, Stardate 13.01.07 - with half-time looming Liverpool are two up against bottom of the table Watford. With only two competitions left to play for, a good league finish is more important than ever - this would be a good time to start winning away from home!!

Well even Liverpool cynics wouldn't have predicted other than a win against Watford, but a 3-0 away win is still encouraging, particualrly after the cup exits at the hands of Arsenal. Now if Aston Villa and Wigan can pull off unexpected wins against Man Utd and Chelsea as well, that would be perfect... (Arsenal losing would be nice, too!! Go Blackburn!)

Captain's Blog, Stardate 07.01.07 - I don't mind the fact that we're playing Arsenal so many times this season... what I object to is the fact that they keep beating us. Out of the FA Cup now, only the Carling Cup left...
Captain's Blog, Stardate 06.01.07 - the new MPA (Most Popular Author) lists are out at Epinions, and I've managed to creep into the Top 100 All Time list at... number one hundred. Two more of my game reviews have managed to sneak into the top 1000 most popular reviews of all time for that catagory - Catz 5 and Might and Magic VIII - the Day of the Destroyer. My Top Ten Romantic Comedies list climbed one place to 12 in the overall most popular movies reviews. The good thing is that all the rankings in every category keep going up! (Slowly, but surely.) Could I be number one someday? Nah... I don't write enough electronics reviews. If I can make the top 50 I think that'll about be my limit...

Captain's Blog, Stardate 05.01.07 - it's the first anniversary of me writing this stupid blog. All rejoice.

Captain's Blog, Stardate 04.01.07 - another plug for my books as no-one has shown the slightest interest in them yet! (No-one reads this so it won't really help, but it might make me feel better...)

Warts & All Poetry Collection - FREE Ebook

Warts & All

- This ebook is my first poetry collection (possibly my last, who knows?!) containing some of my best early workalong with some more recent content added for the third edition. "Warts and All" is split into 4 sections : A Lighter Look At Life containing humorous poetry; The Rise, Fall, And Rise of Us - a look at love; its ups and downs; A Darker Look At Life - some of the poetry written when I wasn't in such a good mood!; Prose Poetry - a couple of longer, much free format poems that tell a story.

Best of all, all 85 pagesof poetry are available as a free download Click here to download.

Space Oddity

Space Oddity

- This book / ebook features the infamous Captain Disaster series (episodes 1-11) along with other comedy and serious science fiction stories, along with some other humorous, non-science fiction stories. You can get it from this page for £4.40 as a perfect-bound paperback or just £0.79 for the ebook. This is the third edition of this book, with formating being tidied up and some footnotes ammended. Space Oddity represents my first attempt to relaunch my self-publishing career, with two novels hopefully to be published sometime in 2007. This book is 101 pages (in both printed and ebook formats.)

Prepare to have your synapses severely scrambled!

The Snob, the Blob, and the Mob

The Snob, the Blob, and the Mob

- A novella about a jouralist who discovers taht one of the characters in his newly purchased Matter Reconstrucion game units, where virtual reality is taken a step further, is more than just an ordinary "blob" as these characters are usually caled. A plot unfolds involving a new life form said to have been found on Mars, and the creator of the sentient life-form who is fashioned after his dead daughter, and the Mafia, who are more powerful on the future earth than ever, and with colonisation of other planets seemingly imminent, perhaps the whole solar system... A novella for which a preview version is available.

Expected release date: April 2007

Captain's Blog, Stardate 02.01.07 - updated the poetry and free ebooks pages as my first poetry collection gets a revamp and is put onto Lulu.

With the review of Chicken Run, my Claymation page is complete. For now...

Captain's Blog, Stardate 01.01.07 - welcome to 2007! I've released a preview version for my forthcomign comedy sci-fi novella, The Snob, the Blob, and the Mob - it is of course free so why not download it and see what it's like? See the massively updated fiction page for more information and details of other forthcoming releases by moi.

A 3-0 win against Bolton means Liverpool leapfrog them into third place int he Premiership, albeit still a massive 14 points behind Manchester United who are setting the pace, and retain the best home record with 9 wins, 2 draws, no defeats, 23 goals scored with only 3 against us. If only we could reproduce that kind of form away from home... maybe one day!

Captain's Blog, Stardate 30.12.06 - with the end of 2006 upon us, I have launched part two of my plan to triple site traffic - Top Ten Freeware Role Playing Games (RPG). Also playing around with Cafepress but getting very annoyed with it so I doubt it will get very far. Toying with the idea of putting my books up on Lulu.com once more, but previous bad experiences suggest this will be a waste of time...

Perhaps foolishly I'm giving Lulu another go (apparently they have a UK-based printery now, which may help) - see this page for more details.

Captain's Blog, Stardate - 21.12.06 - one new thing - Top Ten Freeware Adventure Games. Try it, you might like it. Or something...

Also the Language Software section has been extended and revamped mightily... pick a language! Spanish - Italian - German - French - Russian - Japanese - Chinese - Arabic - ESOL - Dictionaries.

Also added a site search feature to the homepage.

Captain's Blog, Stardate - 18.12.06 - Another good win for Liverpool, 3-0 against Charlton, has propelled us to 3rd place int he Premiership though still so far behind Man Utd and Chelsea that it's difficult to see us ever catching up. One of the best home records in the league is nullified to a large extent by one of the worst away records.

Might upload some more poetry today, but formatting some of the more visual poetry is a real pain! :-D ** UPDATE ** - some major updates on the page, categorised by poem type, loads of new poems, site total web pages thus increased by about 50% I think!!

A tiny amount of progress on with a designer journal being started.

Yet another update on the Shareware programs page - a couple of these are programs to allow you to make your own screensavers and make your own printable calendars. There's are loads of new language learning programs, games, and other stuff... click on what you're interested in! Language Software, Utilities, Programs for Webmasters, Internet/Security, Business Software, Games

Captain's Blog, Stardate - 17.12.06 - a couple more poems added to that (wait for it) poetry page. See, I told you I'd add some more before long...

Interestingly esoteric information - on Alexa this site is ranked 4,970,368th, which may sound less than impressive but it's up 1,536,911 places from 3 months ago! I'll be keeping an eye on this stie now - see this page to see the current stats. DARSCOM recently passed 15,000 page views overall, and it seems to be getting steady traffic at about 20-40 page views per day on average. Hopefully this will go up, I guess it just takes one really well known person / site to publicly say that they like your site for it to start going up (or getting top ranking for a generic keyword on Google etc).

Captain's Blog, Stardate - 16.12.06 - Feeling grotty today but the new "Most Popular" lists on Epinions cheeredme up a bit - I've finally managed to get into the Top Ten Most Popular Movie Reviewers of All Time! Ever closer to breaking into the top 100 most popular authors overall - up 5 to 105 - can I manage 100 by next month (when I'll have been at Epinions for 4 years?) Of course, for "Most Popular" read "Most Read", which in my case has a lot to do with the fact that Google seems to like my reviews. I'm not complaing about that...

Also - I'm revamping the poetry page on this site.

Captain's Blog, Stardate - 15.12.06 - so Liverpool - the 2005 European Champions Cup winners - will face Barcelona, the 2006 winners, in the next round of the European Cup. Should be interesting...
Captain's Blog, Stardate - 13.12.06 - Hurrah hurrah!! Etc... I've just posted the final part of my Top 100 Computer / Video Games of All Time!! I thought this day would never come etc...
Captain's Blog, Stardate - 10.12.06 - hmm... another 4-0 win for Liverpool, this time aginst Fulham - could this be the real start of our season... or just yet another false dawn?!? Updatedmy Top Ten Romantic Comedies again due to watching this film.
Captain's Blog, Stardate - 06.12.06 - Read Part Three of my Top Ten Computer / Video Games of All Time!
Captain's Blog, Stardate - 06.12.06 - saw Flushed Away tonight and thought it was absolutely brilliant. Let's hope Dreamworks team up with Aardman again sometime. Liverpool lost against Galatassery but we're already through to the next round of the European Champions Cup anyway so not a big deal.

Oddest bit of news I've seen for a while...:

"An American Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing after a passenger lit a match to disguise the scent of flatulence" - now that's something you don't hear every day!!

Captain's Blog, Stardate - 05.12.06 - a bit of a change, this site claims that NASA are plannig to build a permanent base on the moon as a waypoint for missions to Mars. Well I thought it was interesting. Liverpool are apparently giong to be bought by the fifth richest man in the world. Chelsea eat your heart out.. or something. Can't decide if all these rich guys buying English football clubs is really such a good thing or not... Still, at least England' scricket team haven't forgotten how to quickly capitulate in stunning fashion from a strong position. How the Aussies must be laughing... The Ashes stay there, I guess...
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 04.12.06 - in the absence of anything more interesting right now, here's my 250th Movie Review on Epinions. (Spanglish) Oh yeah, anmd Liverpool have finally managed to win an away game in the league this season - 4-0 against Wiagan - and have drawn Arsenal in the third round of the FA cup. I think whichever team wins that match has got to have a good chance of going all the way... pity they beat us so easily last time we played them...
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 23.11.06 - and another freeware adventure game for you - Five Lethal Demons. Not really sure what the title has to do with teh game, but it's very good while it lasts.
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 22.11.06 - finally something's going right on the football front... Liverpool win in Europe again while Chelsea and Man Utd both lose! :-D (Although both clubs will probably still go through to the next stage.) Liverpool are top of Group C and still unbeaten. Just a shame we can't seem to get any consistent good form going in the domestic league...

58 days to go till my 4th Epiversary, looks like I'm on target for over half a million page views by then (19th January). I still need 40,091 hits to reach the 500,000 mark, but should do it with a couple of weeks to spare. I think...

Captain's Blog,Stardate - 17.11.06 - gah... we're now at 99.5% on LEGO Star Wars 2, just need the red brick from the Mos Eisley Spaceport level but it's nowhere to be seen! We've searched high and low for it but just can't find it. Might be forced to look it up on hte net, but really wanted to complete everything unaided! Oh well... In the meantime I've added a new freeware advanture game review to the site, Five Magical Amulets. My own game is coming on slowly, and I should have a beta demo release soon... as always, watch this space! UPDATE - haha, finally found that red brick, so LEGO Star Wars 2100% complete with no hints or cheats! (We don't often manage to complete a game without any hints at all!!)
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 15.11.06 - have added two new pages tothe site, essential freeware applications and an updated opinion on review websites. Nearing 100% on LEGO Star Wars 2. Without any hints or cheats, I might add. A couple of the red bricks are still proving extremely elusive though...
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 12.11.06 - As Darth Vader would say, "Noooooooooooo...."... Liverpool lose 3-0 to Arsenal, and to make it even worse a lot of my friends are Arsenal fans... I'm expecting a lot of texts tomorrow... :-(
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 10.11.06 - just uploaded a new page full of Discworld reviews - also reviews of Terry Pratchett's non-Discworld books, and the three Discworld computer games. Liverpool have remembered how to win matches, which will particularly upset my Blues-supporting friend, though at least they only lost by a goal not seven this time! (See this bit of the blog.)
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 08.11.06 - Finally managed to stop playing LEGO Star Wars 2 long enough to review it! So click that link already...
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 03.11.06 - Well the league season might be over for us but at least Liverpool are winning in the cups. A narrow 4-3 win against Reading in the Carling Cup and reaching the next stage of the European Champions Cup assured after a 3-0 win against Boreaux. In other news, I did actually mange to finish an post Part Two of my Top 100 Computer / Video Games of All Time.
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 31.10.06 - LEGO Star Wars 2 arrived today, so don't expect many updates soon as my spare time will be pre-booked! :-D
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 28.10.06 - to commemorate finshing my series of Wallace and Gromit reviews, I've added a page on Claymation / clay animation.
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 27.10.06 - I've finally given this site some extra content, in the form of another freeware game review - this time Cubert Badbone, PI, by Diedra Kiai of TGTTPOACS (The Game That Takes Place On A Cruise Ship) fame.
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 23.10.06 - Is it really that long since I updated this thing? Hmm... apparently so. My "Friend" who supports Manchester United gleefully texted me to let me know that they'd thumped Liverpool 2-0... so now the league title really must be out of reach! Oh well... how "kind" of him to tell me when I'd not been looking at the football results... Watched Galaxy Quest again yesterday, what a wonderfully funny sci=fi film it is! Alan Rickman is brilliant in that (as in most things, really...) Was down in London to see the Level 42 concert, which was good but not as good as they have been before. Maybe they're just getting old... Actually I feel old, after having seen some people down south that I knew when they were kids adn are now all grown up!
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 12.10.06 - I've started working on my adventure game again, so watch out world! One day I may even finish it! In fact I've set up a basic website for it - www.games.darscom.net.
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 06.10.06 - Why is it that things always take so much longer than they should?!?! Spent ages the other day trying to find a decent freeware DVD player that worked on my friend's system (with Windows 98) on the second hand DVD drive I just installed for him. Then we remembered that one of the DVDs we have has a player included... but can't remember who we lent that DVD to! Cashflow problems not greatly helped by the accounts department messing up my pay - again - but should be sorted out soon. Tim Henman is in the semis's of the AIG Japan Open tennis championship. Thought he'd stopped winning much but he appears to be coming back! Both wife and I have a stinking cold, not much fun. Ah well you can't have everything as Alice Faye used to say.
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 30.09.06 - 3/4 of the year's gone already, where'd it go?!?!? Sadly this 75% of the year was marked by another Liverpool defeat, 2-0 to Bolton :-(
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 29.09.06 - Did the other 5 modules of our ECDL today. Do you want to know what I got? Of course you don't. But I'm going to tell you anyway - Module 3 (Word) - 97%, Module 4 (Excel) - 97%, Module 5 (Access) - 94% (doh!), Module 6 (Powerpoint) - 97%, Module 7 (Internet & Email) - 97%. See, I'm not so dumb as you all thought! King of the Microsoft applications, or something like that.
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 28.09.06 - Peter Crouch certainly seems to be on form, two cracking goals against Galatassery as Liverpool nearly let a 3-0 lead slip - but hang on for a 3-2 victory. At least we're winning again!
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 27.09.06 - What you've all been waiting for is finally here!! Well, you might not realise that you've been waiting for it, but you most definitely have - trust me. Click Here to read part one of my Top 100 Games of All Time!
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 25.09.06 - finally, a new freeware game review! (You knew I'd do another one eventually...) Click here to read my review of The Oracle. Great game.

Additional: - have put some photos of our recent visit to the Royal Botanical Gardens in Birmingham. Want to see them? Click here!

Captain's Blog,Stardate - 24.09.06 - Liverpool are back on track witha 3-0 win over Spurs, but depressingly Chelsea are top of the league. Not really surprisnig, but kind of depressing! At least our goal difference is positive again!
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 23.09.06 - Having been to Nandos more times than I can remember, I decided to try and get a few dollars back by reviewing it. Click here to read it. Just watch out for those Chicken Invaders!!! Also reviewed the 6th Discworld novel, Wyrd Sisters.

Yes, it is a slow news day. Though I'd just like to wish Richard Hammond, the Top Gear presenter fighting for his life after a 300mph+ land-speed record attempt crash victim, a speedy recovery. Just to show that I'm a nice person, like.

Captain's Blog,Stardate - 22.09.06 - I've finally posted my 600th review on Epinions!
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 21.09.06 - It's our 4th wedding anniversary today! :-D 'nuff said.
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 19.09.06 - Very, very odd. My wife and I both took the first two modules of ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence - yeah I think it's a stupid name too) and, with different sets of questions, both came out with exactly the same scores - 89% and 94%. Two become one and all that...
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 18.09.06 - oh well, after a defeat at Chelsea, it looks like Liverpool's title bid might be over before it begins!! I'm sure we'll improve...

Work is going on apace (a slow pace) on my first novel. I do actually intend to get it finished this time, which means most of my other writing endevaurs will be put on a back burner. Never mind eh, can't do everything all at once...

Captain's Blog,Stardate - 16.09.06 - Portsmouth top of the Premiership (for a while anyway) - whod have thought it?!?

In other news, I've finally made it into the top 100 most popular book reviewers of all time on Epinions - whoopedar and all that.

Captain's Blog,Stardate - 13.09.06 - oh great, while updating the site to make it Adsense compliant I managed to delete a file permenently that'll take ages to redo. Oh well.

Coming up to my 600th review on Epinions - and my 100 top computer games of all time...
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 11.09.06 - Gah... why is it that when you have a Spring clean (well, maybe Autumn clean) that you spend hours going through stuff and chucking loads of things away, only for the place to end up lokoing more cluttered than before you started?!?! It's not fair, that's what it's not.
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 09.09.06 - Disaster!! Liverpool lose the merseyside derby 3-0. Oh the same, the humiliation... :-(
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 08.09.06 - hurray, a weekend where I won't need to drive hundreds of miles!! :-D Strange thign last night -I looked up at the moon and was sure I could see the Amblin Entertainment bike - I wonder if Speilburg has bought a vast structure on the moon? I fondly parted with Knights of the Old Republic yesterday after actually managing to sell it on Amazon's marketplace for marginally more than I bought it! All rejoice etc etc...
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 05.09.06 - Had a lovely weekend down in London seeing friends and family, but after driving over a thousand miles in two weekends I am now determined to have a couple of weekends at home in Birmingham! Andy Murray seems to be doing well at the US Open tennis championships, he really seems like he’ll be a world top 10 player soon.
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 28.08.06 - The trip to Scotland went better than expected, and at one point someone even managed to get me on doing karaoke for the first time in my life. (The slimeball volunteered me to sing Aqua’s “Barbie Girl”, which is pretty difficult to do both the male and female singing parts as anyone who’s tried will know.) Following that up later with my soon to be famous Luis Armstrong impersonation, I felt it was time to exit the stage as gracefully as possible. I’m always reminded of just how beautiful the countryside in both Scotland and England is when I drive long distances – I always seem to be reminded when I have no time to actually wander around the lakes, hills and woods. Must arrange a holiday at some point, when the site’s earning me hundreds of pounds a week perhaps. Oh well, it was a nice dream while it lasted! For the first time I'm actually putting a picture up here - this is Largs, on the north west coast of Scotland.

Largs - not in great weather...

Been thinking of what to update on the site when I have a bit more time. Apart from obviously more freeware game reviews, I’ll be putting something up about how DARSCOM came to be, and how it became what it is now. (Click here to see this page now I've vinished it.) Still thinking about putting my novels-in-progress online too, and perhaps some other stuff that is at the moment super-top-secret. To find out what those super-top-secret things are, keep visiting! (Even I don’t know what most of them are yet, that’s how super-top-secret they are….)

Captain's Blog,Stardate - 25.08.06 - will be out of action online for a few days, going up to Glasgow for a naming ceremony thingy. Don't ask me, it wasn't my idea... soon I'll be working less hours secularly and will be doing more reviewing and updating the site far more regularly - one day I hope to even earn a living purely online! Wouldn't it be a fine thing - earning your keep reviewing free games? :-D
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 23.08.06 - well Liverpool are now through to the important stage of the European Champion's Cup though with mounting injury problems. I was pleased to see recently that my Freeware Game Reviews page is ranked 11th on Google for that search temr, and various of the game reviews I've done so far are in prime Google positions for quite generic search terms. That would probably explain why I'm getting 30-50 hits a day on the site without doing much. I'm hopeing to get a chance to spend some time properly updating the site soon though, so keep visiting!

Andy Murray in the Top 200 in the ATA tennis rankings eh - well done that man!

Captain's Blog,Stardate - 19.08.06 - completed The Hobbit last night. Cracking little game, I thoroughly recommend it. I do always hate the feeling of anti-climax when I complete a game though - the feeling of "oh... that's it... well I guess I won't be playing this game again now" is quite horrible. Oh well all good things must come to an end. Off to the gym once more to try to lose some flab... The Premiership starts this season with Liverpool facing newly promoted Sheffield United. They could only manage a 1-1 draw, not a very encouraging start but it could have been worse. Now just have to n=bead Moccabi Haifa on Tuesday in the European Champion Cup's third qualifying round.

In production at the moment: my Top 100 Computer Games of All Time - I've got up to 86 now, just working out the final 14 games to make the list. Loads of true classics from the 8-bit adn 16-bit computers make up the bulk of my list. Look out for it on Epinions in about a fortnight's time.

Captain's Blog,Stardate - 16.08.06 - meaningless good thing - thanks to being signed up for our local cinema's email newsletter, we go tfree nachos when we went to watch Nacho Libre. Meaningless bad thing? The film's not up to much.
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 13.08.06 - we all know it's a meaningless match but it's always good to beat Chelsea again as Peter Crouch scored the Charity Shield winner 10 minutes from time. Beating them to the league title would be good... moaning minnie Mourinho will no doubt complain about the gods being against him or something, but how many times can he lose and it still not be his fault or that the opposing team (whether Liverpool or not) were the better team on the day? We shall see, no doubt...
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 12.08.06 - playing too much time playing games as usual, pretty hooked on The Hobbit right now. Have completely given up on Might & Magic VII - it's buggy as anything on XP and I had one crash too many, so uninstalled it. Looking forward to LEGO Star Wars 2 coming out soon - liked the first game and the sequel (based ont he original Star Wars trilogy is shaping up to be even better!
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 10.08.06 - whoopy-dar, I'm now 12th most popular (or at least, most read movie reviewer on Epinions. All rejoice, and all that.
If you have any inspiration - for anything, whatever your creative bent is - writng, drawing, potry, painting, song lyrics, whatever - write it down when you think of it. Honestly, I've thoguht of all sorts of interesting things to put in this blog, and forgetten them by the time I start updating the blog. Ironic, huh?
I've updated my Sport & Fitness Equipment Review as I've finally got round to reviewing the exercise bikes at the gym. It took me ages to work out what to say about them to make a decent review, but I think I've managed it. Also reviewed the Abs Diet book, did I mention that already? (My memory's not what it was when it was better than it is now than it's worse than it was when it was better than it is at the moment.)
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 08.08.06 - I know, I know, I've not been updating this much. It's been hot, I've been busy and uninspired, and I couldn't think of anything interesting to say. Actually most of those things are still true, well all of them really, but you may or probably won't be vaguely interested to know that I got my highest ever fitness score on the treadmill the other day and my weight, though it still needs to come down a bit, is at least not going back up to what it was before what it is now, which was more than than it is now than it's less than it was. Part of this weight loss can be attributed to The Abs Diet, which earned me a whopping 76... cents last month. Wowee, I can retire soon.
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 07.06.06

Recent film reviews:

Both well worth watching!
Captain's Blog,Stardate - 01.06.06

Random thoughts:

  • I work at a hospital. If I pop outside for some fresh air, all I can smell is cigarette smoke…
  • It struck me (again) the other day that there are so many pretty girls around that lose all attractiveness the moment they open there mouth. I always thought “sugar and spice and everything nice” was a myth, but these girls seem intent on proving that they cannot in fact speak a whole sentence without an obscenity.
  • The closest I’ve come to culture recently (and most likely the closest culture will let me get to it...) was watching “The Marriage of Figaro” last night on the “Big Screen” event at Chamberlain Square in Birmingham city centre (after a visit to Nando’s of course!). Not such a big screen really and very difficult to read subtitles. The event also attracted all the local cretins to make a lot of noise around us, and a drunk attempt at operatic performance. I was very disappointed that the one bit I do know wasn’t there at all, leading me to believe it must have been in Rossini’s version, not Mozart’s. Oh well…
  • Attempting to get back writing reviews but not much inspiration at the moment. Work on my first two adventure games continues, when I’ve got a download available I’ll set up the website, but probably not before. (Though I might put the plot synopses up somewhere if the mood takes me.)
  • Yay! Another cheque from Epinions has arrived!! I can afford to eat for another few days... :-D
  • So another World Cup campaign ends for England, predictably in a penalty shoot out. Lots of people even seem to care, but somehow I can't bring myself to. Ho hum.

Captain's Blog, Stardate 26.06.06 - another lengthy site project (if only I'd agreed to do this in PHP...) - I'm going to completely concentrate on free stuff now so you won't see any personalised gifts or cross stitch stuff at all (unless, of course, it's free!)
Captain's Blog, Stardate 13.06.06 - what with starting a new job (seems to be going nicely so far but taking nothing for granted) and other stuff going on, including having finally started seriously making my own game (an graphical adventure, you might have guessed...), I haven't had much time for the blog or the site. Look out for news of the game's website and probably a demo soon (2 weeks maybe), and hopefully not too much longer for the full release. (I probably don't need to tell you this but the game will be available as a free download.) Watch this space...
Captain's Blog, Stardate 01.06.06 - well, May has ended and so has my contract with City Hospital, so I am now once more jobless. Should have a new contract to start next week but my agency have suddenly gone very quiet...
Meanwhile, X Men 3: The Last Stand has come and gone, and turned out to be a big disappointment, A few new reviews here and there, an update of my Top Ten Movies of 2005 after having finally reviewed The Constant Gardener. Have also reviewed a new freeware game you'll probably like, Speed Thrasher.
Captain's Blog, Stardate 22.05.06 - review of Chicken Invaders added
Captain's Blog, Stardate 21.05.06 - new freeware game review, this time an RPG - the whackily named Super Turbo Power Man, which is just as crazy as it sounds! (Needless to say, I like it...)
Captain's Blog, Stardate 20.05.06 - updated my review of Sppoks - a very enjoyable freeware graphical adventure game.
Captain's Blog, Stardate 19.05.06 - the BMI Calculator on the Chipmunk Basic programs page has now been updated to let you use imperial units of measurement, as well as telling whether you're overweight or not! :-D
Captain's Blog, Stardate 18.05.06 - found out today that my contract is going to be finishing at the end of May, at least in Trauma and Orthopaedics, though Cardioogy (where I work 3 days per week, the other 2 in T&O) haven't said anything. I suppose it's possible that one will be continuing since it's funded by Medicine not Surgery, but it seems unlikely. Oh well that job I applied for may come through, closing date is tomorrow...

Finished my reviewing of the original Star Wars trilogy today - here they are if you're interested (or, indeed, if you have no interest whatsoever, they are still here: Episode IV: A New Hope, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, and Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. (Empire Strikes Back will always be my favourite!)

Captain's Blog, Stardate 17.05.06 - Arsenal fail to repeat Liverpool's European Cup Final victory of last year as Barcelona beat them 2-1. Still, it was a great achievement for them to get there.
Captain's Blog, Stardate 16.05.06 - finally started what I've been intending to do for a long time, have an exclusive freeware game reviews section on the site. (The reviews are exclusive to the site, not the games of course.) Click here for the first couple of game reviewed and check back often! I plan to add at least another couple of freeware game reviews (most likely adventure games, but not necessarily) per week, hopefully more. Keep clicking on the GoogleAds, the more I can get from that, the more time I'll be able to spend updating the site!! (Can it ever be a living one day? I can only hope...)
Captain's Blog, Stardate 13.05.06 - Liverpool round of a highly satisfactory season with a nail-biting FA Cup Final win on penalties against West Ham United, who despite being heartbroken should be more than a little proud of their performance. It took an equaliser one minute into stoppage time with an unstoppable 35-yarder from Steven Gerrad to make it 3-3 and take it to extra time, then with no more breakthroughs in extra time Liverpool won 3-1 on penalties. Click here to read the match report on Liverpool FC's site.
Captain's Blog, Stardate 11.05.06 - ah well Middlesborough got mauled (4-0 by Sevilla) but it was still an amazing achievement that they got there. Incidentally, if anyone feels like linking to this site (or any individual pages herein), it might help increase my overall lowly Google PageRank of 5! Oh yeah and I've managed to sneak into th etop 50 most popular games reviewers and top 20 most popular movie reviewers of all time on Epinions :-D
Captain's Blog, Stardate 10.05.06 - more congrats due, first to Steve McLaren who has landed a UEFA Cup Final place with Middlesborough as a leaving present before taking over the England Manager job, and to Glenn Roeder who's done a fantastic job getting Newcastle into Europe next season as Caretaker Manager and has been given the job full time. On a different note, see this page for a biut of retro programming action...
Captain's Blog, Stardate 08.05.06 - there was lots of drama on the final weekend of the English Premiership, with Manchester United beating Liverpool to second place and automatic entry to next season's European Championship Cup, Arsenal beating Tottenham to the final pre-qualification place for the same competition. Gunners legend Thierry Henry scoring a hat-trick in what may be his last league appearance for the side, Spurs having half their team out with food poisoning for their defeat at the Hammers, Duncan Ferguson slotting home a last-minute equaliser for Everton in his final game for the club... phew!!
Captain's Blog, Stardate 06.05.06 - more GeneRally tracks now available for download. Many other site updates, big small or otherwise!
Captain's Blog, Stardate 01.05.06 - well congrats to Chelsea, worthy league champions again it has to be said (even if their manager hasn't done a single thing with a hint of good grace all season!! Or last season, for that matter...) Oh well they employ him because of his managerial not social skills... Commiserations to Sunderland, Blues (Birmingham City) and the Baggies (West Bromwich Albion) who are going down this season - many sad faces in the West Midlands, though at least Aston Villa will stay up despite their recent defeat by Liverpool! (My mate who's a Blues fan said he hoped we;d do them a favour... we did, but it didn't help that much as they failed to win their match!) Er... yeah... playing Knights of the Old Republic far too much for my own good and definitely too much to write any new reviews... kind of obsessed with getting Star Chores Part 4 to be the higest-rated Sci-Fi story on Epinions - dunno why, it's not like it'll earn me any money or anything, but it's just something I want to do!! Anyway I've kind of decided not to write any more reviews for Epinions till I get my cheque from them... which considering the current financial situation will hopefully be soon!!!
Captain's Blog, Stardate 29.04.06 - have now cancelled repayment protection on both my credit cards, what a rip-off they are!! Was going to say something else here... but... forgot what it was. So it can wait...
Captain's Blog, Stardate 27.04.06 - oh yeah, congrats to Arsenal for reaching the European Champions Cup Final, and also to West Ham for reaching the FA Cup final. Guys, if you were playing anyone other than Liverpool, I'd be hoping you'd win... but as it is I'm sure you'll understand why I don't! Hopefully the 2-1 win in the league is a good sign, but that means nothing in the cup...
Captain's Blog, Stardate 25.04.06 - Now I’ve heard everything… apparently I “drink a lot of tea for a man”… … … not quite sure what that’s supposed to mean, didn’t actually realise women drank more tea… maybe I’ve worked in a predominantly female office environment for too long… .needless to say it was a woman who came out with this astonishingly un-logical statement!
Captain's Blog, Stardate 22.04.06 - Yay!! Livepool beat Chelsea so are in the FA Cup Final! The future of the Mighty Reds also looks rosy with the youth team wining the FA Youth Cup 3-2 on aggregate.
Captain's Blog, Stardate 20.04.06 - Robbie Fowler’s fine scoring form continues with the winner against Blackburn Rover. I’m sure I’m not the only Reds fan hoping Benitez gives him an extended contract!

Watched the original Star Wars trilogy again – still terrific films, pity Return of the Jedi wasn’t quite as good but the first one is still really enjoyable and The Empire Strikes Back is one of my all-time favourite Sci-Fi films. Was reminded exactly why when watching it again. Superb! I feel three reviews coming on… may the force be with them.

My Star Wars parody, “Star Chores” continues as young Luke Whytstalker begins his Jedi training…

Well the diet’s going to pot and not been going to the gym much, but will get back on track soon. Probably. Though remarkably I've actually lost a few pounds since last week - not sure how!

Captain's Blog, Stardate 14.04.06 - ah well as I can't think of anything interesting to put here at the moment I thought I'd bore you with some recent movie reviews: And some animations:
Captain's Blog, Stardate 02.04.06 - would have posted this yesterday but the computer broke... (CPU fan - AGAIN!!!) - fixed that then the internet connection went down... ho hum, here is is, my review of Ice Age 2
Captain's Blog, Stardate 01.04.06 - any April Fools jokes been played on you today? I've had none... that I know of!! Tell us if you've been the victim of any - past or present!
Captain's Blog, Stardate 31.03.06 - grrr...... my first GoogleAds cheque has been converted into English money, and Barclays Bank charged me nearly a quarter of the entire amount for doing it!!! Swines!!...
Captain's Blog, Stardate 30.03.06 - just as well really that I burnt off a record number of calories tonight on the Life Fitness 9500 HR Elliptical Trainer, my most recent Sport & Fitness Equipment Review - well, at the moment my most recent review of anything (unusual for me to go a whole week without posting a new review... but I just can't be bothered at the moment!) Er... yes, just as well I was saying... because I put on 2lb this week. Not good, though perhaps not surprising. Die, calories, die!!! (Funny how I'm putting on pounds in weight and losing pounds in cash like nobody's business at the same time!)
Captain's Blog, Stardate 28.03.06 - things are going really slowly at the moment, can't seem to write for toffee or have any motivation. Oh well. My Top Ten Romantic Comedies has just passed 30,000 page views on Epinions, and tomorrow my total page views will top the 300,000 mark. That's right, 10% of all my page views come from that one review / list, despite the fact that I've posted over 500 reviews (well not all actual reviews, but it amounts to the same thing). Odd, innit? Another strange thing is that so much of my blog has been devoted to sport, particularly football - which really play a very small part in my life. Perhaps I'm wishing to seem mysterious by not saying much about me? Maybe my personal life is none of anyone else's business? Perhaps I just forget what happened earlier in the day? Send your answers on a postcard to someone else.
Captain's Blog, Stardate 25.03.06 - seems like Liverpool are on a bit of a roll as they win the Merseyside debry match with Everton 3-1.
Captain's Blog, Stardate 21.03.06 - Liverpool 3 Birmingham City 0 at half-time... ooh my Brummie friends aren't going to be happy about this one!! (In other news, my diet has crashed completely this week and the prospect of free samosas tomorrow means the weekly weigh-in is going to be tearful!...)

Captain's Blog, Additional -Liverpool 5 Birmingham City 0... I think it's going to be tears in the blue half of Birmingham tonight!!

Captain's Blog, Additional - Liverpool 7 Birmingham City 0!!! Great result, though you have to feel sorry for Blues... without some bad injury problems they would have at least put up a brave fight (they've beaten us enough times in the last few seasons, as certain people keep reminding me!!).

Captain's Blog, Stardate 20.03.06 - ah well, another Monday, back to work... :-( Back to the gym too tonight, after a horrendously fattening weekend!! The diet is in complete disarray. Never mind eh? Good result for Liverpool yesterday, maybe we can snatch second place from Man Utd after all... not much going on in the Forum so if you fancy saying something about... well, something, please be my guest!! It's getting lonely in there...
Captain's Blog, Stardate 17.03.06 - New webpage: Golden Rules of writing for review websites. More updates on site and blog coming soon (as soon as I have time, anyway!)
Captain's Blog, Stardate 08.03.06 - oh well, Benfica have dumped Liverpool out of the European Champions Cup... guess we can't win it every year after all!! ;-d On a happier note, my weight is the lowest it's been since the diet / fitness regime started, and the body fat % is also at it's lowest. Not quite Arnie yet, but getting there...
Captain's Blog, Stardate 03.03.06 - very strange... one day a few months ago my hub cap (car tyre cover) disappeared, presumed stolen by some yung scamps who had taken umbrage at where I had parked. A couple of weeks ago I'd asked a friend who frequently checks at breakers yards for parts if he could keep an eye out for me. He found one, which turned out to be exactly the type I want, not in a breakers yard - but sitting in a bush he outside a house he was making a delivery at! It even has the exact same design as my existing hub caps!! Weird...

>Captain's Blog, Additional - forget to mention this yesterday, my Top Ten Movies of 2005 has now been posted. (I thought you'd be excited about that!)

Captain's Blog, Stardate 25.02.06 - struggling to find much time for anything on the internet at the moment, but in a few idle moments (I did have one or two) I've produced some more Tracks for GeneRally
Captain's Blog, Stardate 21.02.06 - yesterday I foolishly agreed to do a "Body Pump" class at the gym, and have spent the whole of today paying for it... my quads and glutes have been killing me all day!! Still, this exercise lark has done some good - and my first ever review in the sport category on Epinions is currently 33rd Most Popular (meaning most read) Sports review of the year so far and has just today reached 200 hits. Not too bad eh? More coming soon... (Reebok Body Peak is the next up!)

Captain's Blog, Additional -well you can tell Liverpool's success is beginning to upset everyone else because they keep writing off their chances. Benfica in Portugal tonight - 1-0 to the away side, do you think?

Captain's Blog, Additional Additional - gah, they scored 6 minutes from time. We'll still pull it round at Anfield, I'm confident... well, quite confident...

Captain's Blog, Stardate 20.02.06 - okay so I'm a little behind the times with these but...
  • Liverpool beat Manchester United in the FA Cup!! :-D Great stuff, revenge for the recent league defeat. Not too sure about the next round, though - away to Birmingham, we don't exactly have a great record against them! (As one of my Brummie friends delights in telling me... again and again... and again...)
  • Keeping with the sporting theme, muchos congratulations to young Scot Andy Murray for winning his first ATP Tour title, defeating Andy Roddick and Leyton Hewitt on the way! Tremendous achievement. Pity the hype that will undoubtedly surround him for Wimbledon this year will probably suffocate him, but that's the British public for you!

Captain's Blog, Stardate 18.02.06 - good grief has it really been 11 days since my last post here?!? Time files when you're too busy to bother with the internet... not much going on really, just plodding along net-wise, starting experimenting with designing tracks for GeneRally, a freeware racing game. Also have some ideas for a game that may even be within my meagre programming capabilities - but where's the time to do it, I hear you ask? Good question, one I haven't got the answer for yet...
Captain's Blog, Stardate 07.02.06
- - more musings on dieting and losing weight. Up to 525 reviews on Epinions. Kept both my Top Reviewer hats. Can get the maximum score on the bowling game on my phone without much effort. Typing utter gibberish as mind has melted.
Captain's Blog, Stardate 04.02.06 - a funny thing happened to me the other day - Click Here to read about it! (Losing weight can be a dangerous business, but not for the reasons they tell you about!) Also my agency have messed up my contract... so I now have to last a week on £6.23 till I get paid a week late! (Get clicking on those GoogleAds to the right folks, they might save me from bankrupcy!!) Blatant emotional blackmailing aside, this is not much fun... but what can you do, eh? Just hope the wife's current account will last out...
Captain's Blog, Stardate 02.02.06 - Wahey! I earned a whole 27 cents on Shvoong last month - let the good times roll!! Another year or so and I can retire...
Captain's Blog, Stardate 29.01.06 - Gone down to London to see my folks and then down to Gatwick Airport to pick someone up. Took many hours getting back due to slight misdirection. Lovely! Since then been watching Red Dwarf instead of writing… seems to be much more fun at the moment!
Captain's Blog, Stardate 28.01.06 - So Robbie Fowler has come back to Liverpool – I hope he gives us the finishing touch we’ve been missing. I always thought it was a mistake selling him in the first place, in fact I was more upset about that sale than Michael Owen’s, as Owen clearly didn’t want to be at the club any longer. Fowler could become our new SuperSub!
Captain's Blog, Stardate 20.01.06 - I baked!!!! (This is unusual - I do almost all the cooking at home, but hardly ever bake.) The end results far exceeded my (admittedly small) expectations. Just thought you'd like to know! Also just posted my Looking Back at 3 years on Epinions random meandering thoughts thingy.
Captain's Blog, Stardate 19.01.06 - new job starting Monday then, working at the same hospital as my wife - handy, innit?!?
Captain's Blog, Stardate 17.01.06 - gar, still have some reviews on Shvoong with no ratings... Click Here if you feel like putting one of them out of their misery... only a couple more days till my 3rd anniversary - on Epinions, past my third wedding anniversary a while back (don't worry I'll warn you next time so you can all send prezzies! :-D)
Captain's Blog, Stardate 16.01.06 - Came back from the gym tonight and decided to write Top Ten Reasons to Join a Gym. If you tend to be sceptical about the idea of joining a gym, please read it - I was a confirmed sceptic for many years, but now couldn't recommend it enough. Also updated the Freeware Games page - a lovely little freeware adventure game with a nice dash of originality. Try it, you might like it.
Captain's Blog, Stardate 13.01.06 - another fairly heavy update of the site, though perhaps not as readily noticeable as yesterday's. A new page is here for your delectation, Top Ten Lists for all those that like such things, and what you've all been waiting for, a Message Forum. Don't try telling me you haven't been waiting for this, I know these things...
Captain's Blog, Stardate 12.01.06 - lots of new stuff added to the website, the hospital wanting me back to work for the dreaded Renal department... just one review away from the magical 500 figure... I don't know, how do I cope with all the excitement?!?!

Captain's Blog, Additional - Well I finally did it... after nearly 5 years on Epinions, I've just published my 500th review. Click Here to bask in the glow of its infinitesimal glory. Or whatever.

Captain's Blog, Stardate 11.01.06 - hmm... weight unchanged but body fat down 3.3%... these trips to the gym along with the new diet must be working!
Captain's Blog, Stardate 10.01.06 - Spent a nice relaxing day with my other half. (My wife, not my alter-ego or one of my multiple personalities.) Hoping that sometime, somewhere, somehow, someone might sign my guestmap
Captain's Blog, Stardate 09.01.06 - My agency moved pretty quick and have found me something alreadym but I turned it down - I really want some time off to get things done (finishing either of the novels I'm working on would be nice!!) and have some time off... besides, I'm really not sure I want to go back into working in Mental Health... not just yet, anyway... I guess I should really get this website finished too (hey, I am trying!!) In other news, I edge ever closer to the elusive half-millenium mark in terms of reviews on Epinions... 5 to go now that I've posted my review of Homer's Odyssey - no not Homer Simpson you idiot, the Greek poet-type chap... I don't know, some people are just so un-cultured... Captain's Blog, Additional - have added a Guestmap feature to the site, you can find it at the bottom of the menu bar on the left...
Captain's Blog, Stardate 08.01.06 - I move ever close to the magic figure of 500 reviews on Epinions with another in the Foundation Series by Isaac Asimov. Only 6 reviews to go... nearly up to a quarter of a million page views, too... (I could have said nearly 250,000, but quarter of a million just has a ring to it...)

Captain's Blog, Additional - just out of interest... does anyone read this rubbish?!?! Email me your thoughts if you do read this and really don't have anything better to do...

Captain's Blog, Stardate 07.01.06 - yet again I find myself wondering exactly why people have kids... get three girls of differing ages (8-15), and try to get them to agree on something they want to do or watch... and despair, oh yes, despair... still, now that they're gone I can watch some more Stargate SG1 and of course continue to write on my stooopid blog despite the fact that I doubt anyone will ever read it...
Captain's Blog, Stardate 06.01.06 - ah well, another temporary job comes to its conclusion. Nothing more on the horizon right now, so I might have time to do a bit more updating of the website. I even managed to push out a book review today - click here if you're mindlessly bored enough to want to read it.
Captain's Blog, Stardate 05.01.06 - a bit obvious really, I decided to start working on this site in earnest! Found out a couple of days ago that my contract was finishing this Friday, so thought I'd have a whole week to work on it and perfect it, but as it happens I might have a new contract to start on Monday... oh well, I'll have to go to plan B and update things as I go!
