Adventure Quest Online RPG

One of the few online RPGs I've actually spent much time playing is Adventure Quest. It's a Flash-based game with colourful animated graphics, loads of quests and items, some of which are only available to "Guarians" (those who've paid a one-off fee for extra benefits in the game). I've only played the free version myself, and kind of lost interest a while ago. It doesn't really suit game players like myself who like to have an overall objective - which is fair enough really given that they want people to continue playing the game!

The good things about it are:

  • Doesn't need extra software installed, runs in browser
  • Nice graphics
  • Lots of variety in quests etc
  • An active community
  • Constant additions to the site / game
  • Tie-ins with other online RPGs
The disadvantages are:
  • Turn-based combat can get irksome
  • Some of the humour could possibly be deemed innapropriate for younger ones
  • In all honesty, some of it does just come across as too daft You should be able to work out from that whether this is the sort of game you'd enjoy. The best advice I can give you is that if you're not sure, try it for free first. You could actually play it for free forever, though the slowness of character progression might be too annoying if you did.
