CaptainD's reviews of movies starring Sandra Bullock:
28 Days As with all films it has its critics, but I thought 28 Days was a truly outstanding film. Sandra Bullock plays Gwen, a young woman with a drinking problem (well, that's only one of her problems, but probably the main one) who receives a court order to go to a Rehab Clinic. It's a roller-coaster of emotions, at times being insaneley funny, at others being heart0rendingly sad. It also has a stellar cast including Viggo Mortenson, Steve Buscemi, Azura Skye, Alan Tudyk, and Dominic West.
Miss Congeniality A fluffy but still enjoyable comedy about a hard-bitten, frumpy Police Officer (Sandra Bullock... yes I know how difficult that is to believe!) who ends up having to enter a beauty pagent in order to save her career, save the day, save the future of beauty pagentry and stuff like that... Anyway, despite some glarring plot idiocies, this manages to be gunny and has some great supporting cast members including William Shattner, Michael Caine, and Candice Bergan, and Benjamin Bratt. (Well okay, I did only say some of them were great :-D)
The Net This technothriller puts Sandra Bullock in the role of a computer exert who stumbles across a plot and falls victim of identity theft of a different - her own identity on various computer systems is changed so that, for instance, the police think she's a wanted criminal. Also starring Jeremy Northam as a very evil (but inept when necessary so that our Sandra doesn't get killed) baddie, it's often a bit too silly for its own good but still quite watchable overall.
Two Weeks Notice Hugh Grant is the womanising, thoughtless boss who will change his ways (eventually) due to one woman, played of course by Sandra Bullock. This is a good romantic comedy (Top Ten Romantic Comedies) with razor sharp dialogue - the best days of dialogue-let Cary Grant films come to mind. Considering that quality dialogue is so often lacking in films these days, Two Weeks Notice is a real gem.
Murder By Numbers Hmm... this detective thriller was awful and probably Sandra Bullock's worst film. Squandering a good young cast and intriguing initial premise, it quickly becomes stupid... and Bullock's character... are we really supposed to empathise with her at all??!?
